The presents have all been opened. Meals have been carefully prepared, and quickly consumed. All the obligations have been met, to the best of our ability.
Some of us have good memories, while others have disappointments—even pain and grief. Christmas isn’t always a joy-filled holiday. The warm fuzzies, (if we had them,) have quickly faded.
After all is said and done, I find myself left with a sense of “dis-ease.” It’s not that there weren’t some beautiful moments. But in all the busyness of the season, something vital was lost.
Sometimes we can become so busy in the doing that we forget to simply just be. To abide.
What happened to the dream of having a December that was filled with the wonder and anticipation of the Christ Child? Of giving my gift to Jesus, first and foremost? The gift of time.
Perhaps you’re like me. You really wanted to make Jesus the “reason for the season.” Instead, you found yourself caught up in the distractions. Everything else cried out for your attention, and somehow God was relegated toward the bottom of your to-do list. Is anybody with me?
Or maybe you’ve been away from the Lord for a very long time, with no idea of how to return.
It’s not too late.
Instead of wasting another moment, whether it’s been a day or several years, why not stop whatever you’re doing and just breathe His name? “Jesus.” He’s so close. He never left. Just tell Him that you’ve missed Him. James 4:8 (ESV) says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Let the Savior know that you’re sorry for the silence and the distance—for the sin that has overshadowed your relationship. I John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Lay it all at the foot of the cross, and find forgiveness and a new beginning. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23 (ESV)
When you don’t know which way to turn; fall. Fall into the open arms of the Savior.
Father God, You see the real me. There is no sense trying to hide anything from You. You know that I have allowed other things to creep onto the throne of my heart. But Father, I don’t want another moment of separation! Please forgive me for making this season about pleasing others, instead of about pleasing You. Thank You for being Immanuel: God with us. You’re with me. You never left. Thank You for allowing me to start fresh…for Your steadfast love and for Your mercies that are new every morning. I love You!
Your grateful daughter
in the midst of people and business it can be a very lonely time without Jesus…
Yes! And sadly sometimes even those of us who know the Lord don’t press into Him when we need Him the most. Praying that we will choose to run to the arms open wide.
Thank you Jenny. Your words are always very encouraging.
so glad my friend!
