Thirsty

Those of you who were following my blog probably noticed that I hadn’t posted anything for several months.  I absolutely love blogging, but honestly I just got to the point where I had to cut out all distractions in order to buckle down and write my book.

Writer’s call it “bum glue”, when you just have to sit down, face a wall if necessary, and not get up till the words come out!  It can be a bit grueling at times, but necessary.  I’m happy to say that I’ve finally finished my book!

It’s a historical fiction novella about the biblical account of the woman at the well.  She was a woman who was at an extremely low point in her life, and one day encounters Jesus when she goes to draw water.   I love how the Lord meets her right where she is; literally.  Spiritually and emotionally she’s so thirsty.  I’m also drawn to the beautiful imagery, and how it highlights our own need for Living Water.

One of the people who read my manuscript said, “Wow Jenny!  She’s all of us.”  I have to agree.  In many ways I believe that she represents all of us, because we are all desperately in need of what only Jesus Christ can give us.  She’s just like the people we meet every day, (sometimes in the mirror), who are feeling hopeless and helpless; utterly incapable of finding their way out of the pit of their circumstances.

Jesus Christ steps into the woman’s darkness and shines His marvelous light.  When she realizes that Jesus sees her as incredibly valuable, despite her dark past, her transformation is stunning.  Her voice is so genuine, and she pulls you in.

They say that it’s always the teacher who gains the most knowledge about whatever they’re teaching.  That stands to reason, since usually you take in far more than you can give out.  That’s how I feel about this beautiful woman.  I have learned so much from her! Perhaps I’ll write a non-fiction book, and call it “Lessons Learned From the Woman at the Well”…what do you think?

In any case it feels good to be back.  I missed you guys!

~~Jenny
