So far Charlie and I are having a wonderful time in Orlando, visiting with My dad and step mom. It has been a good time of reminiscing, and learning new ways to relate as my dad struggles with dementia.
Today Dad and I were on our own for a while, and we spent time singing from an old hymnal. It was so cool to watch his face light up, and to match my voice to his! It brought back all the time spent in the car on the way to church, singing song after song from the back seat with my sister, while Dad was the “audience”. good times:)
Music touches a part of the brain that doesn’t forget…and evokes, in this case, some beautiful memories of time spent worshiping God. For as long as I can remember music has been a balm to my soul….a way of expressing whatever mood or circumstance that I’m in. I believe that my love of music came from him, and for that I am so grateful!
I’m also thoroughly enjoying being with my step mom, Carol. Really, she has grown to be like a dear friend/mom for me, over the years. We can connect on deep levels, and usually have a hard time ending our conversations. I think we both make the other think. I told her that she’s a “ponderer”, (you know, how Mary hid all these things and pondered them in her heart?), and so am I.
Tomorrow after church we head for Daytona Beach. The weather is a lot cooler than we expected, but I still can’t wait to see the water. I hope to be posting a video soon, of those mesmerizing waves!
We will be reconnecting with my brother and his family…can’t wait. And we will be meeting up with my Auntie Joy and Uncle Carl, where I believe some delicious seafood will also be on the menu…yummm!
Until then, I’ll sign off. I’m sooo glad that my hubby came with me this trip 🙂 🙂
