Well my days as a beachcomber have ended, and I’m back in the land of cold and snow…no wonder all those people fly the coop for warmer climates in the winter!

We spent our last evening with my brother and his family, and had a wonderful time. He’s a fantastic cook, and made us shrimp scampi….amazing! Despite the limited time we had, it was still so good to reconnect. I will treasure those moments spent together.

Johnny (no one else can call him that but us) put the pictures we’d taken on his big screen television, and I was absolutely stunned by the images of the second sunrise I had recorded. Although I know I was there…the one snapping each shot…it all seemed so surreal.

Looking at those images, you would think it was a compilation of many different times, instead of the same setting of only about thirty minutes…truly breathtaking.

As I stood there drinking in the scene, I had the sense of being the only one observing this beauty. And I realized that this sunrise will never be repeated…it’s impossible. These same clouds won’t be here, and the waves are all unique. The sands shifting beneath my feet are ever changing. Even the seagulls and the terns flying about will form different patterns. Thus I am a witness, like Adam and Eve once were, of God’s creation unfolding before me.

Oh Lord, You amaze me! You knew how much I wanted to see, experience, and record a sunrise, yet You went so far above my expectations!! That was beyond anything that I could have possibly imagined. And it was designed by You, the Creator of the universe…of all that has been, and of all that is yet to be…Who loves me…am I dreaming? Lord, I don’t deserve any of this. But I receive it gratefully.

You could have made a world that was simply utilitarian…monochromatic. But You are a God of beauty, and You placed that desire for beauty within our hearts as well.

When I look at something so vast as the ocean, and see the sun that You created rising above it, painting the sky in such an amazing way…all I can do is to bow before You. This is all so beyond me. The ocean is so powerful and mysterious, and no amount of studying will ever give up even one tenth of its secrets.

Thank You, Father God, for Your magnificent creation. Thank You for the sound of the surf…hearing the waves crashing rhythmically against the shore, time and time again. So peaceful.

I will never forget such an extravagant gift. I wish everyone could experience all that I have this past week. I thank you that You love to delight us. Help us to be like little children, coming to You with a heart of love and of expectation, because that is what You desire from us.

Yet as amazing as this experience has been, it can’t begin to compare to what heaven will be like. Jesus, You went to prepare a place for us, and I know that it will completely stagger our imagination! Help me to remember that this is not the main focus…You are.

“…no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him…”   I Corinthians 2:9

My job is to love You with all that I am, and to learn to trust You more and more. And when the sky turns dark and the clouds obscure my view, help me to remember that this is not all there is. Help me to fix my eyes on You.

Verses to ponder:

” And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asked for an egg, will he give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:9-13
