I have been journaling since my early 20s. Pretty much it has simply been about my conversations with God. Talking to God about whatever I’m feeling at the moment; whatever I’m going through. And I can trace God’s hand through the pages, as I sensed his response to my heart cry.
So the idea of being still before God is not a foreign concept.Yet many times other things get in the way, and I forget just how important it is to take the time to quiet my soul before God.
I really like Sarah Young’s devotional book:” Jesus calling… devotions for every day of the year”. It’s formatted as if Jesus Himself were speaking. Here’s tomorrow’s entry… I skipped ahead 🙂
“Trust Me enough to spend ample time with Me, pushing back the demands of the day. Refuse to feel guilty about something that is so pleasing to Me, the King of the universe. Because I am omnipotent, I am able to bend time and events in your favor. You will find that you can accomplish more in less time, after you have given yourself to Me in rich communion. Also, as you align yourself with My perspective, you can sort out what is important and what is not… To avoid doing meaningless works, stay in continual communication with Me.”
Once again I would like to share with you a song by Kristyn and Keith Getty, entitled “Still, be Still My Soul”. These are modern day hymn writers from Ireland, and I find them to be very refreshing. I hope you enjoy this music, and that you will find time in your day to the still.
Still, My Soul be Still
Still, my soul be still, and do not fear
though winds of change may rage tomorrow
God is on your side
no longer dread the fires of unexpected sorrow
chorus:
God, You are my God, and I will trust in You and not be shaken
Lord of peace renew, a steadfast spirit within me
to rest in You alone
Still, my soul be still
do not be moved by lesser lights and fleeting shadows
hold onto His ways, with shield of faith against temptations flaming arrows
chorus
Still, be still my soul be still
do not forsake the truth you learned in the beginning
wait, upon the Lord, and hope will rise
as stars appear when day is dimming
chorus:
God you are my God, and I will trust in You and not be shaken
Lord of peace renew a steadfast spirit within me
to rest in You alone
I rest in You alone
in You alone
